I remember loving Saturday morning cartoons. I had my favorites that I watched every week like Smurfs, Snorks, MASK, Superfriends, Dungeons and Dragons, Godzilla and Godzookie, and a ton more that I remember bits and piece of, but can’t remember the names.
I’ve always liked cartoon. I was an early adopter of The Simpsons, its odd that I’ve been watching it since sixth grade. I like Family Guy, Spongebob, and almost anything my kids watch that is animated. That does NOT include Barbie movies, those are so brutal. There is however, a fantastic Barbie series called Life In The Dream House that makes up for the terrible movies to some degree.
Anyway, the reason we’re here today is because the Disney Channel has a great new cartoon that my four-year-old and I enjoy equally.
BIG CITY GREENS
Big City Greens is a cool little show about a family who leaves their farm to move to the Big City.
It’s like a reverse Green Acres or a new Beverly Hillbillies. That reference is for old people, or kind of old people who had TBS growing up.
The show centers around a boy named Cricket. Cricket is a bit crazy, he has an unrelentingly positive amount of exuberance and curiosity that keeps my little Lakey laughing like crazy. He’s like Bart Simpson on six cups of coffee. He really is funny. Even in the short clip above, there were three legit lol moments.
For my money though, its the secondary characters that make the show genius for all ages to enjoy together.
Bill is the dad. He has like this calm, quiet, all-knowing personality. The voice of reason one might expect. The problem is, he is as out of place in the city as any of them, and his attempts to be te one who ‘gets it’ makes him hilarious.
Grandma is nuts. The sister, Tilly, is potentially the best character. I can’t decide if she is incredibly intelligent or completely insane, or perhaps both. She is like the cartoon character version of
Jim Gaffigan’s “say what the audience should be thinking” voice.
So bottom line, if your phone is dead so the kids don’t have any screens other than your television available. Try to land on Big City Greens.
You won’t be disappointed.
